What Makes An Authority Site?

Posted in Uncategorized on April 30th, 2009

You should know that over the last year Internet marketing has evolved and the new online business model involves authority sites taking the place of spam sites.  This is making for happy search engines as they do not like sending traffic to sites that merely scrap content and add nothing unique.

What is an Authority site?  Why should it matter to you?  Well Authority sites are sites that provide an abundance of high quality unique content and are linked to or referenced by other quality websites within the same niche.

When you are searching for topic specific information, where do you find it?  Is it bookmarked within you favorites folder?  Isn’t that where you keep Authority sites you have found in the past?  If you are thinking of creating an Authority site you should be aiming to have a content rich site that will land you in the favorites folder of many visitors.

There are thousands of spam sites that have gone up with only the intent of getting you to click on one of the ad-sense ads you will find there.  Sites like this do not offer anything unique and are great examples of sites with content scraped from others.  You probably took one look and clicked quickly away.  Who could blame you?

An Authority site on the other hand is not one that you will quickly click away from.  It will suck you in with its unique content and style.  Inviting you to take another look and thirsty for more.

An Authority site will have pages of unique content that is topic relevant.  Authority sites will have content that is current and keeps visitors coming back to stay abreast of what is happening in the field.  The visitors will spend additional time reading and learning to find answers to questions they were not even aware of.

Authority sites are a doorway to additional unique content for your field of interest.  They will offer links to information on other sites that have content which is relevant to the topic.  As an example an Authority website that focuses on dogs would have pages of links to relevant off site information.  Perhaps that dealt with training or breeds.  Providing the links to off site and relevant information is a sign of a website that is more focused on providing relevant resources to visitors than it is on keeping those visitors within its own website.

Out going links do not hurt Authority sites, they make those Authority sites a better resource for the web community.

Authority websites are interested in forming ongoing relationships with visitors more than anything.  They are interested in giving quality content and a valuable resource for the web communities’ use.

To that end Authority websites generate well written content that is focused and topic relevant.  They have conversations with visitors through the information they supply and let their personality show in their writings.  That provides readers with in insight to their convictions.  It shows the website is willing to do the research needed to provide visitors with quality content and coverage of topical trends.  This is how sites become Authority destinations.

To create an Authority site you should find a niche that you know something about.  Being knowledgeable on the topic will help when you are creating content for your website.  You will also need to keep current on the changes going on within your niche so sign up for RSS feeds and Google alerts on the topics within your niche.  These free resources will keep you up to date. Visit Authority Blueprint for a step-by-step guide on becoming an authority site.

Always put visitors first and keep in mind that you are creating a site that will answer your visitors’ questions while providing valuable content.  Be credible while creating a site you can be proud of.

How Not to Learn Programming

Posted in Uncategorized on April 30th, 2009

One thing you want to strive for is to learn your programming language in as little time as possible. You don’t want to be sitting there after 6 months and not be able to finish a program. Here are a few suggestions to get there as quickly as possible.

Master Your Course Material

A great start to your programming career is by completing your course (I assume you will be going on some course) with flying colours. Having lectured programming I can suggest the following:

-  no messing around in lectures, you need to focus and concentrate
- things that need explaining need to be written down, you won’t remember it
- don’t be afraid to ask questions, but don’t hog the lecturer’s time either
- do all your exercises, this is where you learn to program
- rewrite the notes in your terms, leaving out the nonsense (especially valuable if you will write an exam)
- get a good nights rest every night, and keep your relaxation healthy, you need your brain.

Program, Progam and Program

The quickest way to becoming proficient is to jump right in and get your hands dirty. Like all things in life, practice makes perfect. The more you do the better you get - it’s that simple. You will find the learning curve steep in the beginning but the more you code, the flatter the curve becomes. You need to keep ‘pushing on’ in the beginning and soon enough you will get to a point where you can build code straight from your head. Get to know your Textbooks

Let’s face it, you won’t come off course knowing and remembering everything. Hopefully, what you will know is where to find it, and key to this is knowing your textbooks. The better you know your textbooks the quicker you learn. The trick here is not to know all the content (ideal but unrealistic),  but how to find stuff quickly. Again, this will only come from spending time in them, and soon they will become your programming ‘bibles’. They give the correct code and usually accompanying examples, so give it a bash on your own and if there is no success, pull out the books.

Learn to Search on the Web

A great tool available these days is the internet. Time and time again, I use the available search engines to find out how to code something. The key to this tool is using the right search phrase. I always type in “what I want do” followed by the programming language e.g.
“Date Validation” COBOL
“Calling subroutines” JAVA

Keep your search phrase simple. This tool can save you hours of “hair pulling” when your code just doesn’t seem to work or when you don’t know where to start.

Consider These Suggestions For Summer Travel

Posted in Uncategorized on April 29th, 2009

As we watch our vacation budgets carefully, a question that arises is “Where’s a great destination with lots of variety?” One strong possibility for your summer travel plans is Southern California. It’s got the beaches, theme parks, roller coasters, Hollywood and lots more.

The beautiful state of Hawaii should also be on the list, if you find a good deal on airfare. You can almost feel that warm ocean water right now, but remember that there are offsetting advantages to the Golden State. The Southern California Vacation Guru has written about the differences between vacations in Southern California and Hawaii. Keep in mind that there are way fewer underwater rocks to worry about in the California surf, and the humidity and sun intensity are a little easier to handle in the summer. You’ll find the ocean water to be warmer in the Aloha State, but the cooler California water might actually seem more inviting on a hot summer day.

Of course, the vegetation in Hawaii is often magnificent and the local culture adds much to the experience. However, the California coastline, mountains and desert are quite beautiful as well, and the place is a melting pot of cultural diversity.

Southern California offers much more than great beaches. Don’t forget about the seven world-class theme parks waiting for your visit. If you are traveling with a lover of thrill rides, then Six Flags Magic Mountain and Knott’s Berry Farm should be on your list; Six Flags and Knott’s roller coasters are especially noteworthy. Those parks both boast many coasters and similar adrenaline-pumping rides. Disneyland has a few attractions that would be considered thrill rides, but not nearly as many as those other two parks.

There aren’t many roller coasters to be found in Hawaii, unless you consider wintertime surfing to qualify in that category. California is probably a more budget-friendly summer travel option, but now and then you really do need to get over to Hawaii.

Find the right free background check online

Posted in Uncategorized on April 29th, 2009

Conducting a free background check online isn’t as easy as some ads would like you to believe. While the Internet has given us some great tools to conduct our own free background checks, it is opened the doorways to some unscrupulous firms and services.

Most background check online information is obtained by companies from free public records repositories. These sources of information are sometimes local or state government agencies that make their information ready to the public.

A situation that alot of people including myself have ran into is that a large amount of these companies use old or poor information sources for their commercial websites. These poor records are sometimes worthless and outdatedfor the arm chair investigator.

A frequent problem that I I have also encountered with free background checks online is a familiar bait and switch technique. These services will offer you free records and allow you search their database but will prompt you for payment for the results.

Their are a couple of things you can do to confirm your not wasting your time with these poor quality background check sites. Your first step is to search the company on the Internet. Search for reviews by reputable blogs about the free background check services that you wish to use.

The other step I would suggest is to first, check if your local regime has a free public records site. Many local and state regimes have free records sites open to the public. These sites are usually up to date and provide very relevant results.

Look past the flashy advertisements of these sites. If it seems too good to be true, than well it is. I have not really found a useful background check online so don’t believe the hype thrown at you everyday on the web.

A Complete Education in Balloons

Posted in Uncategorized on April 29th, 2009

Introduction

When you think of the word ‘Balloons’ what ideas appear in your mind? Is it simple balloons you blow up for children’s parties, or balloons that fly off on their own, or the special balloons for key events like the ones produced for the wedding of Charles and Diana? There are now so many different types of balloons on the market that you can get almost anything for everything any event you like.

So what exactly is a balloon? One definition defines a balloon as a flexible bag which you fill with air or some other type of gas, such as helium or hydrogen. The early balloons would have been made with non elastic material but modern balloons are made with latex so they have great elasticity and can be pumped up to much larger sizes.

History of Balloons

The most primitive known balloons were made in Central and Southern America by the Aztec Indians. They were made out of the bowels of cats which were carefully cleaned then turned inside out. They were sewn with special vegetable thread that had the property of sticking to itself when dried in the sun and creating an almost airtight seal. The balloons were then made into air filled model animals and burned at the top of the Aztec pyramid as an offering to the sun god. (The first example of balloon modelling). A Portuguese priest, Bartolomeu de Gusmao, held the first public exhibition of a balloon in the Portuguese Court in Lisbon in 1709 which was probably made from an animal bladder that stretched when filled with air. The rubber balloon was invented in 1824 by a Michael Faraday and was filled with hydrogen to be used in his experiments with hydrogen. But the familiar latex balloon did not appear until 1847.

The early rubber balloons were sold in America in Parks and Circuses for a penny each. Although the latex balloon was manufactured in London in the mid 1800’s the mass production of them did not happen until much later in 1931.

As technology has become more advanced so has the world of balloons. Now balloons can be made from rubber, latex, polychloroprene or nylon. They can be filled with air, helium, hydrogen or water. Filling the balloon with air can be done with the mouth, a manual pump(such as a hand pump), or electric inflator or with compressed gas. The balloons are used for many differing purposes, and decorated in numerous ways to fit the event.

Some balloons are purely for decoration, others are ideal for specialist purposes because of their low density and relatively low cost. The balloon’s properties have led to them being used in a wide range of other applications in the areas of meteorology, military defense, medical treatment, and transportation.

Types of Balloons

Party Balloons

The most common and familiar types of balloons are the party balloons. These are usually bought in small packets and blown up with a pump to create a festive scene for children’s parties and other kinds of celebratory events where advertising balloons can make all the difference.

These days I often see a cluster of balloons at the entrance to a house or hall to indicate where the party is being held. The balloons come in many different sizes and colours and can have printing on the face which expands as the balloon is inflated. Party Balloons are mostly made of natural latex tapped from rubber trees. The rubber’s elasticity makes the volume variable. Balloons filled with air usually hold their size and shape much longer.

Helium Balloons

Balloons which float upwards are filled with the gas helium which is lighter than air. So for an event where balloons are let off into the atmosphere, they will need to be helium balloons. Helium filled rubber balloons typically only retain their buoyancy for a few days. The enclosed helium atoms are smaller than the pores in the latex through which they escape. To increase the float time of a helium balloon for a week or more, the inside of the balloons can be coated with a special polymer solution to reduce the leakage of the helium.

Water Balloons

The water balloons are often smaller than regular balloons and made from thin rubber so that they can be easily broken. They are filled with water and are intended for children to throw at each other as a game or practical joke with the aim of getting each other drenched. They may also be used in competitions or games.

Foil Balloons

In the late 1970s along came the foil balloon. These are made of thin non-stretch metalized plastic film or mylar. They are much more expensive and made an appearance at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana causing quite a stir. These balloons have attractive shiny reflective surfaces and can be printed with color pictures, logos and patterns to customize them. The most important characteristic of metalized nylon for balloons is its ability to keep the helium gas from escaping for several weeks because it is less permeable. Foil balloons then have the advantage of being light weight, longer-lasting, with increased buoyancy. They are perfect for parties, in-store decorations, special celebrations and for gifts.

Animal-Shaped Balloons

Metalized nylon balloons can be cut into the three dimensional shapes of animals and then printed to represent the chosen animal. Once inflated the balloons make very bright, decorative items for gifts or may be used as a theme for a special event. Screen printing is used to create the designs for these spectacular pieces.

Balloon Modelling and Balloons in Art

Balloon modelling is a popular entertainment for children and adults alike. A Balloon artist twists and ties inflated tubular balloons into shapes resembling animals or even people. Sometimes they are called balloon sculptures, not to be confused with those cited below. When I have watched these artists at work I have often wondered why the balloons don’t burst when they are working.

Obviously the type of Latex used for balloon sculptures is different and much stronger than ordinary balloons, so the sculptor can twist and tie the shapes without them bursting. These Latex balloons which are tubular, are hard to get going, so often a pump is used to get them started.

Balloon Sculptures

Professional party decorators may use hundreds of helium balloons to create balloon sculptures. These sculptures are often restricted because of the round shape of the balloons to simple arches or walls but on occasion more ambitious “sculptures” have been attempted. Sometimes balloons are used as table decorations for special events which will have 3 or 5 balloons to each bouquet. The decoration will usually include curled ribbon with an added weight to stop the balloons from floating away.

Professional balloon party decorators use electronic equipment to enable the exact amount of helium to fill the balloon. For non-floating balloons air inflators are used. Professional quality balloons differ from most retail packet balloons as they are bigger in size and made from 100% biodegradable latex.

Balloon Drops

I am sure you will have been to a party or dance where at the end of the evening hundreds of balloons fall from the ceiling to mingle amongst the participants. This is known as a balloon drop and is often performed at New Year’s Eve celebrations or at political rallies and conventions. It is a relatively low cost way of making a festive atmosphere at the party climax, so everyone goes away feeling they have had a really good time.

If you want to create a balloon drop for your own event you will need to set up a large plastic bag or net overhead, which is suspended at a certain height. This is then filled with air-inflated balloons so that they will fall onto the target area below when the balloons are released. You will also need to devise a mechanism for releasing the balloons. Balloon drops may also be performed at many celebrations, including graduations and weddings.

Balloon Rockets

As a child I am sure you played the game of blowing up a balloon then letting it go while watching it speed around the room making a rude noise with everyone falling about laughing. These are called balloon rockets and I remember being fascinated and wondering how they worked. When the mouth of the balloon is released, the greater pressure of air inside forces its way out and the elasticity of the balloon contracts causing the balloon to be propelled forward. This is fundamentally how a rocket works. The balloon can also be filled with gases other than air, with similar results. Besides being simple toys, balloon rockets are a widely used teaching device to demonstrate physical principles and the functioning of a rocket. The balloon rocket is regularly used to demonstrate Newton’s third law in physics.

Balloon Publicity

To raise awareness at a major publicity event your company logo or message is printed onto the balloons at releases or balloon races. Companies specialising in UK balloon delivery can be contacted for large quantities of racing balloons.

Balloon Releases

In Australia they had a fund raising event on 18th April for Make-A-Wish Day. The 5,000 released balloons make a dramatic sight as they rise across the bay marking the number of wishes granted since 1985.

If you are planning a balloon release or race of more than 5,000 balloons, it is a requirement that you apply in writing for permission to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at least 28 days in advance. The CAA also like to be informed of balloon releases up to 5,000. A form can be obtained by calling either the NABAS office on 01989 762 204 or the Airspace Utilisation Section of the CAA on 020 7453 6599

Because of concerns about the effect on the environment of large numbers of balloons being released, the NABAS - The Balloon Association have produced a code of conduct which can be found on their website at www.nabas.co.uk

Safety and Environmental Concerns

Balloons are made of natural rubber latex (NRL) which is a natural product coming from rubber trees that are grown in certain areas of the tropics. These are not trees that are cut down to produce the NRL. The NRL is obtained by tapping from mature trees and is a sustainable crop providing employment for many agricultural workers in some of the poorest areas of the world.

As a consequence of NRL cultivation and the consumption of latex products, the planting and maintenance of rubber tree plantations helps towards the prevention of tropical rainforest deforestation. This contributes significantly to the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, produced by industrialised nations and a major source of global warming.

Research shows that latex balloons which are completely natural coming from the Hevea tree degrade faster than oak leaves. Oxidation occurs first in the breakdown of latex and it begins within an hour of a balloon being inflated. As the decaying process is by natural exposure nutrients are released into the ground. Most balloons used in releases today are made of bio-degradable latex.

An estimated 90/95% of balloons released rise to an altitude of 5 miles, at which height the cold will cause the balloon to become brittle and shatter into miniscule pieces. The small fragments then floating back to earth to degrade in the ground. Balloon fragments are unlikely to cause harm if accidentally ingested. This is because latex and the dyes used in latex colouring are non-toxic.

Printed latex balloons are a fantastic, low-cost and environmentally friendly way of advertising at promotions and events. All latex balloons supplied by B-Loony, the UK’s largest printed balloon manufacturer, are completely biodegradable. The code of conduct produced by NABAS for balloon releases gives advice to ensure the protection of our environment.

Manufacture of Balloons

Balloons are manufactured by their millions every day in many countries. The rubber is collected as liquid from a rubber tree and then sent to the factories where the liquid goes through a series of treatment processes. These processes include shaping and colouring operations and testing for quality. The results are thousands balloons which provide a splash of colour and party atmosphere at celebrations and conferences or any event where a large number of people gather.

Conclusion

Toy balloons have been a source of pleasure and excitement throughout the world for many years. They have provided hours of entertainment and interest for children as well as being an educational resource. Non toy Balloons are being used for science, medicine and travel and are invaluable in helping us to learn about our world. Balloons I am sure will remain very alive and active on the world’s scene for many years to come.

Leather Laptop Bags Are Soft But the Problem Is?

Posted in Uncategorized on April 29th, 2009

Leather has a great visual appeal. The only problem is because it is soft; it can have a future problem for your portable computer.

Laptop bags usually have lots of support to keep damage to your notebook during transportation. This is particularly essential if you are going abroad and looking forward to getting to an airport. If you are checking in the bag, be wary with those bag handlers. They are most likely going to be flipping your computer in that leather bag all about the place.

Anyone who checks in a leather laptop bag is really expecting some difficulty after getting that bag in the next airport. Unless marked fragile, the bag hints the content of the bag anything but a computer. So make a point, on the contrary, to hold that bag with you on the plane. Retaining that in mind with your next travel, insure the bag is not overly big to go with you on the plane.

So what are the crucial considerations when looking for the leather laptop bags in the market? Number one issue is the use. If you travel a lot and you have a lot to things carry, a rolling bag is your optimal option.

If you respond or follow with the trends, then leather is a strong option as most brands update with their leather bags for laptops every fashion season. The disadvantage is possibly less protection for your mobile computer. Leather is soft so it demands to be strengthened with panels inside to allow an efficient barrier from the elements. These panels can range from materials like wood to composite resin materials which are strong and light and expensive.

As I have said always, when looking at the stores, please bring your computer with you because nothing more annoying than coming home with a bag that doesn’t fit your notebook.

A Perfect Bathroom

Posted in Uncategorized on April 28th, 2009

I can still remember my best friend’s bathroom. I was only about eight years old, but I remember that his family kept a copy of the Reader’s Digest on the back of the toilet, probably on a doily. I loved reading the silly jokes during my every so often trip to their bathroom. That was my introduction to bathroom decoration and accessories.

Today the market of bathroom decorating has exploded, but few of us take time to consider how to make our bathrooms more comfortable beyond that token copy of the Reader’s Digest. After all, you’re going to have to visit that room several times a day, so why not use it as just one more canvas for your creative palate to paint on. Even more than that, consider what kind of statement a well decorated bathroom makes to visitors. Everyone cares about their kitchen and living room, but those who take the time to make their bathroom appealing will demonstrate their genuine care for their home overall. So consider what you can do to make your bathroom an appealing place to spend time.

Start out with looking around the rest of your house. What you’ve done in different rooms in the house many times can apply to the bathroom as well. For example, every living room has some kind of low table to hold magazines or books. Why not put something like that in the bathroom? After all, I loved my Reader’s Digest and everyone could use a good yarn to distract them from their real purpose in the john.

On the same token, when you come across a great idea for the bathroom in your decorating research, know that you can many times apply the same idea to your house. Do you like that cobalt blue tile in the bathroom? Why not try it in your kitchen instead of the dull white tiles? Why should we settle for the mundane in one room when we can apply the same creative ideas to all rooms?

Bathroom decorating ideas can stretch all across the room, from top to bottom. Consider the flooring and using decorative tiles, carpeted areas, or flashy linoleum. The tiles on the sink can match or contrast with the tiles on the floor for effect. Besides just this hardware, a variety of other elements exist. Consider how you want your soap to look. Do you want to use a nice looking soap dispenser, or maybe you want to consider one of the many creative handsfree soap dispensers available on the market. Maybe you want to even make your own soap dish. Consider fashioning one out of clay in your desired shape to work with the rest of the bathroom décor.

Consider what will make you and your guests feel relaxed. For example, relaxing pictures across from the toilet can create a serene environment overall.

Don’t forget to decorate your bathroom. It can be the crowning glory of your home.

When folk want to burn fat one of the most frequent things they do is to miss meals. It adds up, ok, cut out the calories by ingesting one less meal. Doesn’t burning fat come with eating less calories? That’s correct but skipping meals is not the right way to restrict calories. Your body thinks it’s being starved when you skip meals. It goes into starvation mode. It starts to keep back fat to counteract what it perceives as a shortage of food. With a an effective diet and weight loss product you should never feel starved.

When you omit meals you’ll wind up famished at the following meal. The consequence is binge over eating. Missing a meal plus binge over eating, then, will likely result in consuming a lot more energy and the body gaining even more fat from those calories than usual. It’s the worst of both worlds. Don’t skip meals. Do not do it.

Have a program on how much to consume. Portion control is just as significant as ingesting the right food. Overabundance of even a healthy food will still result in fat gain. Portion control is hard when huge helpings are the norm. Restaurants serve ultra-large helpings, as do most people at home. Sources such as the FDA list recommended daily allowances. Think of dish size when you eat at restaurants, peculiarly fast food restaurants. Do not ingest the total serving dished up at the restaurant, or order less than a full meal, such as soup and a salad.

Eat more complete grain foods, skip the white grains such as white bread, sugar and white rice. Complete grains are rich in nutrients and reduced in fat. The fiber in complete grains will make you feel fuller more rapidly and stay content longer. Also complete grains contain much food value that are often deficient in people’s diets.

Consume more water. Replace juice and pop with water since fruit juice and pop adds 90,000 calories to an average person’s diet every year. sip it between meals too. The resolve is 8 glasses of water daily. It seems like a lot, but it is not. Drinking water helps health as a whole by keeping you well hydrated and facilitating to avert overheating.

Nibble on healthy snacks between meals. The physical body necessitates nutrients every three to four hours to sustain right blood sugar. Eating healthy snacks, such as fruits, help in checking eating at meal times. Learning a suitable diet and weight loss product to shed weight isn’t inconceivable with some knowledge and planning. Financial Budgeting For A New Business

Posted in Uncategorized on April 26th, 2009

Did you know that cash flow deficiencies are the main reason most companies go out of business?

If you are seriously interested in making your business a success, then managing your money effectively is critical to the security of your organisation. Whether you run a simple work at home business doing admin tasks, or manage a multinational company like Biffa who do glass recycling, well managed finance and particularly a healthy business cash flow are everything.

When starting a new company it might seem impossible to put together a budget without any financial history on which to base income and expenses. However a business plan, before you even start, with some idea of costs and revenues is essential to determining the viability of a business, even if you are just planning to setup a work at home business. It might seem like guesswork at the beginning, but a tentative budget can be established with some thought and projections of future business. From some past experience in renovating properties, I always say ‘think of a figure and double it’ and then you will be near the mark. I think this is true for other businesses, because it’s human nature to underestimate what we need to spend and over estimate what we will earn.

Businesses usually have two main categories, like my demolition company, income and expense. Under the expense category there can be several sub-categories often falling into two main areas of controllable expenses and uncontrollable. While many business owners claim they can control every expense involved in their business, they are simply kidding themselves, as some things such as utility cost, the amount of rent and other so-called fixed costs can, and do change, with the owner having no control. (Recent oil price increases are responsible for a number of small airline companies going out of business)

Other expenses such as payroll, transportation and advertising can be subject to a budget, but they are considered controllable expenses. If the business begins to fall off, you can control some of these expenses by laying-off employees and cutting back on advertising. However, living by a budget may help maintain profitability but could also turn against you in the long run.

Depending on the viability of your business it may be a better investment to bite the financial bullet on employee wages and still provide good customer service to the remaining customers until business picks up again. If no one takes care of the customers, it will not be long until there are no more customers to care for.

There are 2 ways to budget your business finance and these are through set dollar amounts or as a percentage of income. Many businesses will budget their controllable expenses by the dollar and non-controllable by percentage of income. Obviously a good part of the owner’s time is going to be based on bringing money into the business and how much they have to spend on controllable expenses will be in direct relation to income. With any increase in business the owner will probably need the extra help to take care of the business so a percentage of income will go to more wages, thus freeing the owner to focus on generating additional income.

There are many other expenses that fall into the payroll account such as worker’s compensation charges, Social Security tax paid by the company and paid vacation time or other perks determined by the employer. These need to be calculated into costs when recruiting new employees into the business.
